DOHA: A spectacular end to a great event! That was the story of this year's Heir Apparent Cup which was won by Al Rayyan with a final against Al Sadd on Thursday.
Trailing 0-1 with just a couple of minutes to go for the final whistle, Al Rayyan produced an unlikely winner and then went on to bag the trophy following a dramatic penalty shootout. The event - contested by four teams - was a similar success off the pitch too.
More than 23,000 fans turned up for the final at Thani Bin Jassem Stadium. Kids had turned up with their families in large numbers. The Heir Apparent, H H Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al Thani and a host of other dignitaries were also present to watch the match between Qatar's top clubs. It was Al Rayyan's fourth title triumph while Al Sadd were attempting their sixth win.
In the end Al Rayyan walked off with the Heir Apparent Cup trophy after three pulsating matches. Hundreds of thousands watched the match live on television with Al Kass channel registering hits on its website from overseas as well.
