Belgian coach Eric Gerets on Tuesday signed a three-year deal with Qatar Stars League (QSL) champions Lekhwiya.
Lekhwiya have parted ways with Djamel Belmadi who guided the team to two back-to-back QSL titles. Gerets, 58, was unveiled as the new coach at a press conference in Doha on Tuesday.
Lekhwiya's Algerian import Madgid Bougherra was also present at the press conference attended by team officials. Gerets said: "I know the team. I know the players. I know the history of the club. I am going to do my bit to help the team go and win more matches and more titles.
" Lekhwiya officials said the team was negotiating with Gerets for sometime and could not close the deal since the Belgian had contracts running with Saudi club Al Hilal and Moroccan national team. QSL matches resume on October 20.
